RUN4LOVE: FOSTERING UNITY AND A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE AT USM
USM PENANG, 3 November 2024 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) witnessed a vibrant display of health and unity as 1,929 participants gathered early this morning at the Main Campus to take part in the annual Run4Love event.
The event was officiated by the Governor of Penang, His Excellency Tun Dato' Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak, whose presence reflected strong support for community efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle and a spirit of togetherness.
Professor Dato’ Dr. Aileen Tan Shau Hwai, Director of the Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) and the Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS) USM, expressed her sincere appreciation to the Governor for officiating the event. She emphasized that Run4Love is more than just a running event — it is a meaningful initiative that brings together values of health, compassion, and social well-being.
“This program marks the revival of Run4Love after a long pause since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which drastically altered lives,” said Aileen.
“I’m proud of the role played by APUCEN-USM in ensuring the success of this programme and reaffirm USM’s commitment to engaging with the community as a catalyst for social transformation.”
She further added that this year’s run symbolises the resilience and strength of the community.
The collaboration between USM, APUCEN, the Noble Values Association, AK Academy, and the Bayan Baru Parliamentary Office demonstrates a strong, shared commitment to nurturing a healthier, more caring, and united society.
In her closing remarks, Aileen expressed her hope that Run4Love will continue to be a highly anticipated annual event, fostering lasting values of love and unity among the community.
